What Is CBG?
Both CBD and THC share a similar chemical makeup, but they’re not independent. To get both CBD and THC (as well as the cannabinoid CBC), you must first have CBG or CBGA (cannabigerolic acid). CBG is present in almost every cannabis strain; however, it has a concentration of typically less than 1%.
We get CBD, THC, and CBC when CBG is exposed to ultraviolet light or heat. Most often, CBG converts to either CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) or THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid). Whichever cannabinoid is synthesized, the other becomes less prominent. Meaning, if CBD is the compound synthesized from CBG, then there will be far less THC and CBG found. The same can be said if THC is synthesized.
What Does CBG Do?
So if CBG is the precursor to both CBD and THC, then it must share the same effects, right? Actually, no. While CBG is the first step in getting both CBD and THC, CBG is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid. This means that it won’t produce the “high” typically associated with THC. Not to mention, there is currently little evidence to show that CBG produces similar health benefits to CBD.
Does CBG Have Any Benefits?
While studies surrounding the effects of CBG haven’t been as wide ranging as other cannabinoids like CBD, it has already shown some promise to act on a few highly specific physiological issues. And while what CBG has been tested to treat is different than CBD, benefits may exist. So far, it’s been found that CBG may be beneficial in treating:
Additionally, CBG has shown evidence of being an effective antibacterial option in studies regarding strains of MRSA. Proof of all these benefits is not definitive and will hopefully continue to be researched alongside the potential benefits and treatments used with CBD.
For now, individuals who take CBD should know that full spectrum products, such as those sold by Frontier Jackson, still include cannabinoids like CBC, CBN, and CBG, as well as naturally-occurring terpenes. When taken together in a full spectrum CBD product, our bodies may experience what’s known as the “Entourage Effect,” which helps to amplify the effect of the product being taken.
If you’re ready to try CBD for yourself, find the product you need to set out on a new path toward a more balanced lifestyle with Frontier Jackson today.
