Why Doesn’t CBD Get You High?
Even though CBD and THC have the same chemical makeup (C21H30O2), the arrangement of each compound varies by a single atom. The difference of the two compounds allows THC to adhere directly to the CB1 receptor within our endocannabinoid system (ECS) while CBD binds weakly to the same receptor.
Without the direct adherence to the CB1 receptor, you won’t get the same euphoric feeling with CBD that THC provides. Oddly enough, CBD has even shown to reverse—or at least limit—the effects of THC by either reducing THC’s ability to adhere to the CB1 receptor or unbinding it from the receptor if CBD is introduced to the system after THC.
But even without the “high” that other cannabis products elicit, CBD interacts with our bodies in different ways, offering us other beneficial feelings.
What Can CBD Do?
While CBD doesn’t give people that euphoric high associated with other cannabis-based products, it still serves a greater purpose. This is because of how CBD interacts with CB2 receptors within the ECS, which are most abundantly found throughout our central nervous and immune systems.
What makes the ECS so powerful is its ability to utilize CBD to enhance natural cannabinoids, such as anandamide, and in turn act as an all-natural alternative to relieve mental and physical health issues like:
More research on the effects of CBD is still necessary to find out exactly what it can do for us, but with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, there’s a better chance that we can find more benefits sooner rather than later. On its own, CBD has the ability to provide the relief you’re looking for, but it can’t do the job as effectively as you want without a little help.
What’s in CBD That’s Beneficial?
For many people, it may not be known that there are two kinds of CBD solutions to choose from: CBD isolates and full spectrum CBD hemp oil. Isolates and full spectrum options will deliver CBD effectively to the ECS, providing the relieving properties you want. But something changes when using a full spectrum CBD product.
With full spectrum CBD hemp oil, the body receives not only cannabidiol, but other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes, as well as vitamins and nutrients. Together, these naturally-occurring ingredients produce “the Entourage Effect,” which amplifies the effects of CBD. With this sort of boost to the ECS, it’s possible that you get relief from CBD on a much larger scale than you would with just an isolate.
Can You Legally Purchase CBD?
Depending on where you live, yes, you can purchase CBD legally and use it without having to think twice. Thanks to its non-psychoactive properties, almost every state in the U.S. allows for the sale and use of CBD—just double-check your own state’s laws prior to purchase to ensure you’re within your rights to buy it.
